A saddening event for us all, yesterday’s LA Fitness Shootings in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvannia. For those of you who aren’t clued in on the story yet, I’ll fill you in. At around 8PM Eastern Time a man by the name of George Sodini walked into the LA Fitness Center at the Great South Shopping Center and shot dead three women who have been indentified as Jody Billingsley, Elizabeth Gannon and Heidi Overmier before finally turning the gun on himself.

George Sodini, 48, had apparently been planning this bloodbath for months but had “chickened out” the first time round. According to sources, among the dead lay’s Sodini’s girlfriend who has not yet been indentified… although I would have thought it would have been pretty damn obvious considering there’s 3 dead. I highly doubt he spent time with more then one of them.
Mr Sodini kept an online blog (journal) full of gruesome entries, below is an extract from his last post on August 4th, 2009:
“The biggest problem of all is not having relationships or friends, but not being able to achieve and acquire what I desire in those or many other areas.”
“Women just don’t like me. There are 30 million desirable women in the US (my estimate) and I cannot find one.”
According to other sources he disliked and despised women, although his blog entry seems to put a spin on that fact and makes it seem as if he’s looking for the perfect women.

How much does it cost for an LA fItness membership?I want to join LA fitness here in miami. I went on the website and they do not list any prices. I like to work out at home, but I think I would enjoy a wider range of physical activity. Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay when I sign up, and possibly how much it will be monthly?

its like $50 bucks up front & around $24 a month depending on what "program" you sign up for. They really want you to come in so they can hook you. I am a member & really like their gyms though. I have it set up that I can go to anyone I want.
If these are private companies as opposed to public companies, then their financials will be private.
If you have a friend that sells wholesale, they may be able to run a dun and bradstreet report on them.
LA fitness will be more. I paid $75 for my initiation fee that might be a student price. Then you pay the first and last months dues $70 So up front you pay $155 then monthly $35
They have an offer I got in the mail the other day where 2 people can join pay 1 initiation fee. Dont know if you need the coupon it expires on the 30th this month thursday

This sort of thing is really scary and people who act like that are studied by psychologists but hard to identify beforehand. All you can do is always be alert and not let anyone make you so fearful you can't live your life.
Don't watch the story on cable news where it will come up over and over and over. Nobody knows anything right now, so speculation is just that. Probably most of what is being said will turn out to be wrong or not helpful.
I don't even know what happened to the shooter. Just heard about number of weapons and blogs. Maybe someone will make some sense out of this.
Nobody can know why a man who can't get a date thinks there is any point in shooting random women. I think that this is more than simple pathology. it is also evil.

You'll have to pay a registration fee and then pay monthly for as long as you want or as short as you want. If you print a try-the-gym-for-free pass from their website and bring it to the LA Fitness and act really interested in the gym they'll let you have one free workout day there and they will take your driver's license and keep it at the front desk until you're finished working out. Afterwords, they will try to give you a good deal so that you'll join the gym. It's usually about a $150 registration fee and then about $30 per month until you decide to quit. I heard that they raised their rates last month to $35 per month, but when they try to give you the good deal they'll tell you that for this one-time only you'll be able to pay $30 per month if you sign up today! You can quit your membership at any time whether it be 6 months or 6 years. Best of luck!
It's been a while but when i enrolled it was first and last plus a fee. it came to be like 129. or something like that. it's month to month and it's 29.99. I'm not sure now. But you should call and ask about the specials sometimes they have really good ones. Just give a fake phone number if you don't want them calling you every 10mins =)
Although I live in IL, I can tell you that they are always running deals…I got in at $29.99/month before the gym ever opened…they claim the regular rate is $49.99 a month with a $250 initiation fee. Yet, I always see them running specials.

Not sure what gyms you have there, but I find it's MUCH nicer than Ballys, but not as nice as Lifetime. I would like if they had a steam room and towel service.
