<p> When it comes to our kids&#8217; health, we want to inspire them. We see everything they could become and we want them to see it for themselves. We try to inspire kids so they want to live a healthy and active lifestyle, so they can reach the potential we see in them. But where does that inspiration come from? How can kids see the creation of a healthy lifestyle as a fun thing?  How do we make learning about health and fitness something they can active<span id="more-113"></span>ly participate in? And most importantly how can we inspire the kids in a way where they take responsibility for the development of their fit and active lifestyle?</p>
<p>It seems like a tall order. But the key here is inspiration. It might seem like a hard won commodity, but all my experiences as a trainer have proven that inspiring health starts with one simple step:</p>
<p>Believing in their potential, showing them you believe, and engaging them to find and create their own healthy lifestyle.</p>
<p>Another way to think about this simple step comes from the relationship between a trainer and a client. A good trainer always acts a coach for their client; while the client strives in competition with themselves, challenging themselves to reach their goals and meet their potential. </p>
<p>When it comes to our kids, our job as educators is the same: Help the kids see their potential, instill the skills and knowledge they can use to create their own healthy lifestyle, and let them have some fun doing it.</p>
<p>An incredibly fun example of an activity that we can do with our kids to inspire the creation of a healthy lifestyle is the &#8220;Healthy and Fit Olympics&#8221;. In this activity the entire class is one team competing against themselves, with the teacher playing the coach. This way the entire class acts a team trying to beat their own personal bests from the beginning of the competition. At the end of the year, the champions (everyone who beats their own personal bests) get medals that the class can design for themselves. And if the entire class as a team reaches all their goals: the entire class gets a trophy.</p>
<p>The activity starts at the beginning of the year: the kids make a movie, comprised of interviews with each kid and footage of each kid participating in a physical activity. Then all year long the class trains to become &#8220;healthy and fit champions&#8221;.</p>
<p>A big component of the &#8220;Healthy and Fit Olympics&#8221; is the activities to get ready for the competition. Some prime examples of multi-faceted &#8220;training&#8221; activities come from adapting the old stand-by: the relay race into a fun hybrid of a race with strong emphasis on nutrition.</p>
<p>Relay Race One: Racing Towards Health<br />
Have the kids trace an outline of a healthy body and post in on a wall as a goal. Then have each group of racers cut out seven pictures of healthy foods/activities. Have the kids use the healthy pictures as the hand-off racing the healthy pictures towards the goal. Whatever team&#8217;s Body is full of the healthy pictures first wins. (UPGYM will even provide your class trophies for the winning teams).</p>
<p>Relay Race Two: Connecting the Fitness<br />
Have the class decide on a picture of health, then make an outline of the picture—in dots. Each kid then picks a dot and races towards a spot on the floor corresponding to their dot&#8217;s location on the picture. When all the kids are in their places, you get involved by running around &#8220;connecting their dots&#8221; thus finishing the picture.</p>
<p>Some Other Training Activities  <br />
•  Agility: Eraser drills<br />
•  Speed: Sprinting drills<br />
•  Coordination: Playing catch, throwing medicine balls<br />
•  Flexibility: Lunges and squats<br />
•  Balance: Single leg hops<br />

<p>At the end of the year videotape the competition and the award ceremony and watch it with the kids. They will have worked hard all year to learn about what makes a healthy lifestyle. Letting them watch their performance will solidify the fact that they reached their goals and lived up to their potential. Their experiences over the year training to become a &#8220;Healthy and Fit Champion&#8221; will carry on, providing them with self-confidence and skills to live a healthy and fit life.</p>
<p>It all starts with inspiration. If we believe in our kids, and challenge them to set their own goals and reach their potential—if they know you believe they can do it and their whole class (as their team) is rooting for them—They will become the champions of their own fitness.</p>

<p> Sweating out for your body&#8217;s benefits can be a tad overwhelming when you don&#8217;t have enough discipline to start from. Your busy schedule might prevent you from getting a gym membership or your measly income simply cannot afford you one. The good news is you can do exercises at home and reap the same benefits gym-trained people get from their memberships. There are simple fitness workouts you can follow without an instructor and still burn calories<span id="more-135"></span>. Determination, hard work and discipline are all you need to make these exercises work for you.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t need expensive equipment to keep your fitness workouts running. Don&#8217;t be lured by fancy ads on TV or sale items in fitness stores. Most fitness equipment is are not needed to keep your body toned and well-shaped. If you need to buy equipment, consider your goal and the kinds of exercises that it offers. Expensive equipment does not guarantee better results so make sure you have enough knowledge about its use before you commit to it. For muscle building, a dumbbell set and jump rope are very cheap equipment tools that you can use for your workouts. For higher budget equipment, buying a treadmill is a very worthy investment since it&#8217;s a flexible cardiovascular apparatus that can be adjusted to your fitness level as you progress. Another great investment is a fitness ball, which can cost you very little but provides various body workouts.</p>
<p>Other simple fitness workouts that do not involve equipment include running, where it does not only make you fit but allows you to breathe fresh air and meet other runners as well where itso you can be motivated you to keep at on doing it. Running can be physically and mentally exhausting and if you don&#8217;t make it a regular exercise then you will feel like it is your first time running every time you hit the tracks. TConvenient and the right running shoes should be your investment in this form of exercise since they will prevent you from getting injuries. and tThey make your running comfortable, too. Walking is another cheap and free exercise where the body and environment can benefit. Outside your regular exercise, walking to your local store or a friend&#8217;s house instead of driving saves you from gas expense and saves the environment from additional pollution. Walking at a considerable pace increases your heart rate to 60-70%, which can be good for your heart. Ten minutes into walking signals your body to prepare for fat burning.</p>
<p>Fitness workouts will not be a complete set without exercises that pays homage to your abs. A flat stomach is an enviable sight that both genders work very hard to achieve. Again, advertisements on TV keep bombarding us with sophisticated equipment that promises to do the job while we don&#8217;t have to break a sweat. Well, tThat part can be true but success is sweeter with a little sweat. The crunch is the crux of most abdominal exercises. The basic crunch requires lying on your back with your hands behind your head. Bend your knees up and slowly lift your upper body off the ground while feeling your abdominal muscles contract. Feel your muscles work and rely on that for the number of reps you want to perform. When you feel like you are straining your neck then you are not doing the right thing. Perform the exercise with caution to avoid injuries. A well-exercised stomach not only looks good but also provides you with better performance and stronger body.</p>

<p>1.  Do you have what it takes?  As a fitness trainer there are plenty of skills you need besides enthusiasm.  You need to be able analyze situations, be patient, be persistent but nurturing, be organized, be a good listener, and be a<span id="more-199"></span> good motivator.  You need to love to work with people of all ages and all backgrounds that share the common goal of wanting to become fit.  And of course you should practice what you preach and be fully involved in fitness and a healthy lifestyle.</p>
<p>2.  Get Certified &#8211; There are all kinds of fitness certification programs that you can branch into.  It also depends where you want to work.  The common fitness trainer certifications are ISSA, NEPT, NCSF, ACSM, and ACE.  Length of program for each certification varies.</p>
<p>3.  Specialize &#8211; There is no requirement for to specialize however when you do you open up other employment opportunities.  You can also charge more when you have specialized.  You can decide to take it right away when you get certified as a fitness trainer or you can go back and get it later.</p>
<p>4.  Work It At The Club &#8211; Grab your telephone book and have a look at clubs that are listed in the area you are willing to work. Then contact them to see if they are looking for a fitness trainer.  If they indicate they might be then it&#8217; a good idea to go drop off a resume. </p>
<p>5.  Open Up Your Own Fitness Trainer Service &#8211; When you run your own business you get back what you put into it.  You&#8217;ll need to check with your local area to see what type of licensing you require.</p>
<p>6.  Sell Yourself &#8211; Once you get your business set up and running then it&#8217;s time to get out there and market your business and in order to market your business you need to first sell yourself.  If you aren&#8217;t sure how to do this have a look online about marketing your business.</p>
<p>7.  Continuing Education &#8211; Leaves you with refreshed with new skills and very smart accomplishments that will certainly help you keep the job you have or get a new one.</p>
<p>Become Indispensable &#8211; When you finally land that job make sure that you become indispensable to the person who has hired you.  Be better than the rest.  When your client feels they can&#8217;t live without your help you&#8217;ve got yourself a long term client. </p>
<p>Being a fitness trainer will be very rewarding.  You&#8217;ve got all thee excellent skills that you can use to help others become fit, loose weight, tone up, and just become more comfortable with their body&#8217;s. </p>
<p>As a fitness trainer you have the training and knowledge to help someone rethink their position on fitness.  You can give them the fitness bug with all your enthusiasm.  If you have special interests in fitness why not share it with others?</p>

There is more to training than do any hardcore aerobics and weightlifting. Simple things can be good for your body as well as your mind. </p>
<p>For example fitness training can d<span id="more-178"></span>o a world of good when it comes to great circulation. If you increase your circulation and get your blood pumping every now and then you can help any heart problems you may have as well prevent them if you don&#8217;t have them. This is because it has been shown that even losing a few pounds can lighten the load on your circulatory system and allow your heart some relief. This can easily be achieved by just taking a short walk around the block. Just getting fifteen minutes a day of some activity can greatly impact your life. </p>
<p>Another great advantage to fitness training is that it can relieve a lot of fatigue. This is because it gets your blood pumping and some adrenaline going. While you may think that you are too tired now to move, if you get up and do some exercise you will find that a lot of that afternoon slump will disappear. This once again only requires getting up for a mere fifteen minutes and walking around. If you have to work, take walks on your breaks and you will be surprised at how good you feel and how much more work you can get done. There are even some countries that encourage it, but even if you don&#8217;t live in one of those, you surely can take some of your break time to go on a short walk. You&#8217;ll be glad you did when you see how refreshed you feel. </p>
<p>One last obvious benefit to fitness training is losing weight. There are many people nowadays that are overweight and looking to lose some of the weight. Whether it is a minor amount of weight to a lot, it&#8217;s nothing that a little fitness can&#8217;t help. Once again even if you just lose a little weight you will feel better all around. Losing weight can also help improve a number of health problems and should be taken advantage of. </p>
<p>When it comes to fitness training, there really isn&#8217;t any good reason not to do it. In fact the advantage far outweigh the disadvantages. Just remember to check with your doctor before starting anything and you will be glad you did.</p>
